I've been teaching children to read for nearly 30 years, and I've trained schools across the country on reading development. But the biggest shift in my work didn't come from a program or a research study.

It came from my son's diagnosis.

When he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, I stopped asking "What program works?" and started asking "What does the brain actually need to learn?"

That question changed everything.

I immersed myself in neuroscience, brain development, and how neural pathways form. And what I discovered made reading instruction clearer, simpler, and more effective — because we were finally working with the brain instead of against it.
